Grace
Beauty for Ashes
My husband and I serve as youth pastors at our local church. Exactly one year ago today, our church was struck by lighting and was completely and utterly burned. While it would have been easy at the time to look at the destruction and devastation, I prayed and asked God to give me the strength to see what remained as opposed to what was taken. People - Family - Faith was what was indestructible. Not a building, nor rows of pews with deep seated history mattered. I often look at this picture and the one on the right to remember that grace and hope triumph. This hope doesn't waver and carries into my prayers for our school, community, and our precious children.

This is a picture that hangs in the hallway of my home. It reads, "beauty for ashes." In my life, I have learned that nothing is too far scorched, ruined or beyond repair that love cannot revive and redeem. This is grace. This is love. That no matter how weary we are from doing good or how "singed" life can make us feel, that we know that there is grace. Grace for each moment. Grace that is greater than anything we may face.
